Developing Young Workforce Event

The V&A Dundee, in collaboration with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Tay Cities, hosted a successful schools event on Friday, 28 February. The event aimed to raise awareness of diverse employment opportunities and inspire students to explore potential career pathways before making crucial academic decisions for the upcoming year.

Students from across Dundee and the surrounding areas attended the event, which featured esteemed speakers from the Nine and Three Incorporated Trades, including Deacon Convener John Fyffe, Allan Keillor, and Dr. Mhairi Towler. Additionally, breakout sessions were conducted by industry leaders such as Metaltech Inc, Halley Stevensons Dyers and Finishers, and Dundee Heritage Trust. Students also had the unique opportunity to tour the Dundee Tapestry Exhibition, further enriching their experience.

Natalie Marr, Employer Liaison Officer at DYW Tay Cities, expressed her appreciation for the event’s success:

“We truly appreciate the time, effort, and expertise that you and your colleagues at 9 Trades / 3 Trades dedicated to making this event impactful. Your participation provided an enriching and inspiring experience for over 70 students from schools across Tay Cities, equipping them with valuable insights to support their curricular studies. It was fantastic to see students engaging with industry professionals, gaining hands-on experience, and broadening their understanding of career pathways in various trades.”

The event highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in shaping the future workforce and reinforcing Dundee’s reputation as a hub for skills development and innovation.
